Getting your first National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) clearance marks an important milestone. Employers, government agencies, and embassies use this official document to verify that you have no criminal record in the Philippines. Whether you are applying for your first job, starting a business, or processing travel documents, securing your clearance is a fundamental step. The process is now heavily digitized, making it more efficient for first-time applicants.

Step 1: Register Online

First-time applicants must create an account on the official NBI Clearance Online Services portal. Select the option to sign up and fill out the registration form. Create a secure password, accept the terms of service, and submit your registration. The system will send a one-time password (OTP) to your email or mobile number to verify your account.

Step 2: Schedule Your Appointment and Pay

Log into your new account and complete your applicant information profile. After saving your details, click the “Apply for Clearance” button. The system will prompt you to choose your preferred NBI branch, date, and time slot (AM or PM).

Next, select your payment method. You can pay using online banking, mobile wallets like GCash, over-the-counter bank deposits, or designated payment centers. The standard NBI clearance fee is PHP 130, plus an additional system fee of PHP 30. Pay the total amount to generate your official reference number.

Step 3: Prepare Your Required Documents

Gathering the right documents prevents unnecessary delays at the NBI branch. All applicants must bring two valid government-issued IDs. Acceptable IDs include a passport, driver’s license, UMID, Postal ID, or Philippine Identification (PhilID) card.

Keep a copy of your reference number on hand. You can print your application form, take a screenshot of the reference number on your phone, or write it down.

Step 4: Attend Your Appointment

Go to your chosen NBI branch on your scheduled date. Present your reference number and IDs to the clearance officer. They will capture your biometrics, which includes a photograph and digital fingerprints. Review the information on the encoder’s computer screen carefully to ensure total accuracy.

If you have no “hit” (a namesake with a derogatory record), the officer will print and hand over your clearance within minutes. If you get a hit, the officer will instruct you to return after several days while the agency verifies your records.

Final Reminders

Before you click submit on your online registration, double-check all your personal details.
